⚖️ For Legal Professionals

Free PDF Tools for Lawyers

Edit contracts, redact client data, protect documents — entirely in your browser. Nothing uploaded to any server. Attorney-client privilege preserved.

Why local processing matters for legal work

Legal documents contain information you are ethically and legally obligated to protect:

Client identities & addresses
Settlement amounts & terms
Privileged communications
Witness statements
Financial disclosures
Passport & personal data

PDFree processes everything locally in your browser. Your files never leave your device — not to our servers, not to anyone's. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's DevTools → Network tab before using any PDFree tool. You should not see your PDF being uploaded to a remote server during processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does using PDFree risk breaching attorney-client privilege?

Local processing helps reduce exposure because no file is transmitted to any third-party server — the document remains on your device throughout. Whether this fully satisfies your privilege obligations depends on your jurisdiction and internal firm policies. What we can say with certainty: PDFree does not receive, store, or process your files on any server. Consult your bar association guidelines for specific advice.

Is PDFree redaction permanent?

Yes. The Cover Area tool overlays an opaque filled rectangle on the PDF content. The redacted PDF is reconstructed with the content permanently hidden — not just visually covered. The text underneath is not recoverable from the output file by selecting, copying, or examining the document structure.

How does local processing relate to GDPR obligations?

Since no file data is transmitted to PDFree's servers or any third party, local processing avoids many of the data-transfer obligations that arise when using cloud-based tools. Whether this fully satisfies your firm's GDPR compliance requirements depends on your context and internal policies. Consult your DPO for specific guidance.
