Word to PDF Converter — Free, No Upload

Need a PDF from a Word document? PDFree parses your .docx file and renders it into a real PDF — with genuine, selectable text (not a scanned image) — entirely in your browser. Paragraphs, headings, bold/italic, tables, bulleted and numbered lists, images and multi-column layouts all convert automatically.

Supports .docx (Word 2007 and later). A few rarer layout cases are approximated rather than pixel-perfect — see the FAQ below for exactly what and why. Last verified: September 2026.

How to Convert Word to PDF in 2 Steps

1
Open your Word document

Click Choose file or drag your .docx file into the drop zone.

2
Download the PDF

Click Convert to PDF. No options to configure — the PDF downloads immediately, with real selectable text.

What Converts, and What's Approximated

Converts cleanly

Paragraphs, headings, bold/italic/underline text, tables (including real border color and thickness), images, and bulleted or numbered lists — including nested levels and Word's own numbering rules (restarts, custom start values, letter/roman formats).

Approximated, not pixel-perfect

Multi-column sections are balanced by measured paragraph height, not Word's exact line-by-line text flow — a section with one very long paragraph among several short ones can look uneven. Footnote text is collected into a "Footnotes" section at the end of the document rather than pinned to the bottom of the page it's referenced on.

Not supported yet

An image placed inline in the middle of a sentence (rather than on its own line) is skipped. Page-number fields ("Page X of Y") don't resolve to an actual number — this is a limitation of static rendering, not something PDFree calculates itself. Older .doc files aren't supported — re-save as .docx first.

Why Convert Here Instead of a Cloud Tool?

Most online Word-to-PDF converters upload your document to a remote server, convert it there, and send back a file. Whatever is in your document — a contract draft, an internal memo, a resume with your address on it — briefly exists on hardware you don't control.

PDFree works differently. Your .docx file is parsed and rendered entirely inside your browser. No server receives it — not even PDFree's own servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my Word document uploaded anywhere to convert it?

No. The .docx file is parsed and rendered into a PDF entirely in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.

Does PDFree store or log my files after processing?

No. PDFree runs entirely in your browser — there is no backend server that receives your files. Because nothing is uploaded, nothing can be stored, logged, or retained. Your document exists only in your browser's memory for the duration of the session and is cleared when you close the tab.

Does the PDF text stay selectable and searchable, or is it just an image?

The text stays real, selectable and searchable — this isn't a screenshot or rasterized image of your document. Paragraphs, headings, bold/italic, tables, bulleted and numbered lists (including nested levels and Word's own numbering rules) all convert to genuine PDF text.

What formatting might not convert perfectly?

A few rarer cases are approximated rather than pixel-perfect: multi-column sections are balanced by measured paragraph height rather than Word's exact line-by-line flow, so a section with one very long paragraph among several short ones can look uneven. Footnote text is collected into a "Footnotes" section at the end of the document rather than pinned to the bottom of the specific page it's referenced on. Table borders use the first cell's width and color for the whole table. An image placed inline in the middle of a sentence (rather than on its own line) is skipped. Page-number fields (like "Page X of Y") don't resolve to an actual number. Everyday documents — reports, letters, resumes, articles — convert cleanly.

Can I convert multiple Word documents at once?

This tool converts one .docx file at a time. Drop in another file to convert it separately.

Is this a free Word to PDF converter with no sign up?

Yes. PDFree is completely free — no sign up, no account, no installation. Open the tool, load your .docx file, and download the PDF.

Does it work with .doc (the older Word format), not just .docx?

Not currently — only the modern .docx format (Word 2007 and later) is supported. If you have an older .doc file, re-save it as .docx in Word first.
